The Ocean Agency: Consultant, Strategy & Partnerships

The Ocean Agency is a non-profit that uses a combination of creativity, technology and powerful partnerships to raise the awareness and support necessary to help fast-track ocean conservation and climate action. Partnerships with companies including Adobe, World Surf League, and Pantone, along with engagement from celebrities, UN Environment Programme and their ambassadors, lead to mass mainstream support for ocean protection.

Partner Engagement

Developed strategic partnerships to reach diverse audiences, extending beyond the "usual suspects" of people who are already active supporters of the cause. Managed partnerships and coordinated campaign activations with Adobe, Pantone, UN Environment Programme, World Surf League, Oceanic Preservation Society, Racing Extinction, Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

 

Engaging The Creative Community

The foundation of each campaign was to use creativity and optimism to engage consumers (verus "doom and gloom" and fear). Launched Creative Jams with the Adobe community, encouraging creative artists to use their design expertise to support ocean conservation. Developed 3 ocean-themed lenses in partnership with Adobe for their Photoshop Camera app, so people can immerse themselves in whimsical and dreamy ocean environments and share to social media - nearly half a million people have participated to date.

Influencer Marketing

Engaged influencers & ocean advocates from five continents with 110M+ followers to support campaigns, including: Jane Goodall, Raisa Andriana & Hamish Daud, David de Rothschild, Amanda Cerny, Philippe & Ashlan Cousteau, Dia Mirza, Cristina Mittermeier & Paul Nicklen, Alex Rendell, Antoinette Taus, Yaya Touré, Orange is The New Black actresses Julie Lake & Vicky Jeudy, surfer Rob Machado.

 

Reaching Younger Audiences

Utilizing creative competitions, and engaging, shareable, social-media friendly campaign assets and technology, millennials mobilized in support of campaigns. One campaign exceeded 80M impressions and 2M “likes” on Instagram within 2 months of launch.

Lifestyle Events

Spearheaded partnership with World Surf League, who - for the first time in their history - changed the colors of their competition jerseys, using our custom Glowing campaign colors. WSL sponsors, Red Bull, Hurley & Jeep made their on-site and on-air activations "Glow" in campaign colors. WSL announcers & athletes, including Kelly Slater, wore campaign colors and spoke about ocean conservation throughout the Competition broadcast, reaching millions of viewers in one week.

Fundraising Partnerships

Created partnerships with consumer brands to generate donations to The Ocean Agency for their work in ocean conservation. Partners created custom Glowing products, and donated a portion of proceeds from each product sale to The Ocean Agency. Partnerships included: Movement Phone Cases, Dorsal Bracelets, Simon’s Clothing (Canada), Vargas Goteo Jewelry. Additionally, set up ongoing donation mechanisms on Facebook, Amazon Smile, GiveLively, and Benevity.
